Good morning everyone, and thank you for joining us today. If we haven’t met yet, my name is Courtney Hartman, and I’m one of the Group Health Specialists in the Health Plan Options Department at URL Insurance Group. Please don’t hesitate to reach out to me or anyone on my team for assistance in the group market.
A few quick notes before we begin. Everyone should be muted to avoid background noise during the presentation. If you have any questions, please use the chat feature to the right of your screen. Handouts and this slide deck are also available to download under the Handouts tab. Now that you know who I am, I’m excited to welcome Allie Bess, the Regional Sales Representative for Ameritas, who will be going over the dental and vision products. I hope you find this session valuable. Thank you again for being here. Without further ado, I’ll turn it over to Allie.
Thank you, Courtney, and good morning everyone. I’m happy to be here with you today to talk about Ameritas dental and vision products. If you have any questions during the presentation, please put them in the chat. I’ll try to answer them as we go, or at the end.
I’m Alexandria, but you can call me Allie. I’m your Regional Sales Representative for Ameritas. I live in Philadelphia and cover Central and Northwestern Pennsylvania. My main goal is to make your life easier, so please reach out with any questions or concerns. My internal sales support partner is Pam, who you may see on emails from time to time. She helps manage communications and keeps things running smoothly when I’m on the road. My manager is Nicole Goodwin, who handles escalated matters and is also a great resource.
Let’s talk about the importance of dental and vision insurance. Dental insurance provides financial protection, helps manage unexpected expenses, and encourages preventive care. Premiums are often pre-tax, depending on state and local regulations, so it’s an efficient benefit for employees. Preventive care access is where dental insurance truly shines. By having coverage, members are encouraged to get routine cleanings and checkups, which lowers out-of-pocket costs and prevents bigger issues later.
More than 60 health problems can be detected through dental exams, including diabetes, heart disease, and Alzheimer’s. Many of these are linked to gum disease, and early detection can save significant money over time. About 90 percent of adults between ages 20 and 64 experience tooth decay. Regular dental care helps protect oral health and avoid the need for more serious treatments later.
Vision insurance also plays a major role in overall health. Twenty percent of Americans report that their eye doctor detected a non–eye-related health issue, and over 270 diseases, including diabetes, hypertension, autoimmune diseases, and certain cancers, can be detected during an eye exam. Dental and vision coverage make it easier for people to get preventive care, detect issues early, and stay healthier overall.
Oral health is directly connected to overall health. Periodontal or gum disease is linked to chronic conditions such as diabetes and coronary artery disease. Regular dental visits can prevent these issues from worsening. Expectant mothers with untreated periodontal disease are up to ten times more likely to have premature or low-birth-weight babies. As we age, oral health problems can contribute to neurodegenerative conditions. Maintaining oral health has lifelong benefits for both physical wellness and financial savings.
Patients with diabetes who do not visit the dentist regularly may pay twenty to twenty-five percent more in overall medical costs. Dental visits help identify and manage complications early, preventing more serious and expensive treatments later.
Now let’s talk about Ameritas. We’ve been providing dental insurance since 1959 and vision insurance since 1984. We currently have 1.7 billion dollars in annualized group premium and a long history dating back to the 1870s.
What makes Ameritas different is that we focus on flexibility and innovation. Our Fusion Product allows members to use part of their unused dental maximum, typically about 150 dollars, toward vision expenses such as frames, lenses, or exams. Our Dual Choice Vision plan allows members to choose between VSP and EyeMed networks at the same rate, giving them flexibility based on preferred providers. We offer a Lifetime Deductible, which means members pay their deductible only once for the life of the plan instead of every year. Our Dental Rewards program lets members increase their annual maximum by maintaining preventive visits and staying under a certain threshold. After implementing Dental Rewards, the number of members returning for follow-up care increased from seventeen percent to fifty percent, showing its success in encouraging consistent dental visits.
For our individual products, our goals are simplicity, easy enrollment, strong member value, and confidence in both product and network. Members can enroll online by entering their ZIP code and selecting a dental or vision plan. Coverage can begin the next day. We offer three dental plans, called PrimeStar Light, PrimeStar Advantage, and PrimeStar Elite, as well as two vision plans, one with VSP and one with EyeMed. Coverage ranges from basic to comprehensive, with benefits like orthodontia, teeth whitening, and hearing care on higher-tier plans. Ameritas rates are based on ZIP code, not age or gender. We also offer credit for prior coverage, allowing immediate access to higher benefit levels.
Ameritas maintains one of the largest PPO dental networks in the country, with over 592,000 access points nationwide. Members save an average of thirty-nine percent by using in-network providers, and about sixty-six percent of members use the network regularly. Unlike many competitors, we use a single PPO network rather than tiered networks, ensuring consistent discounts for all members.
In the Harrisburg area, Ameritas ranks as the fourth-largest network, close in size to United Concordia and Delta Dental. For example, an in-network crown might cost about 840 dollars, while the same procedure out-of-network could cost around 1,370 dollars. With fifty percent coinsurance, an in-network patient pays about 420 dollars, compared to 685 out-of-network—a significant difference that also affects annual maximum usage.
For support and resources, groups under one hundred employees can contact our Group Service Team at 800-659-2223 or by email at
Ameritas partners with nearly all major benefit administration platforms. We’re available Monday through Thursday from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. and Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Eastern time.
